Alex Herrera

Alex Herrera, M.D. is a distinguished Professor and Chief of the Division of Lymphoma in the Department of Hematology & Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation at City of Hope. He also serves as Associate Medical Director of the Briskin Center for Clinical Research. Dr. Herrera is a board-certified hematologist-oncologist specializing in lymphoma treatment with expertise in immunotherapy and stem cell transplantation.

Dr. Herrera's educational background includes:

• Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Massachusetts General Hospital (2012-2014)

Dr. Herrera's clinical and research interests center on immunotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in patients with lymphoma. As principal investigator of over 40 clinical trials, including 17 investigator-initiated studies, he focuses on novel agents for Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas. His work also investigates biomarkers of response to personalize lymphoma treatment and improve outcomes.

His extensive publication record demonstrates expertise across multiple domains of lymphoma research, with particular emphasis on immunotherapy approaches, combination treatments, and biomarker-driven therapy. Recent work shows increasing focus on PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors, CAR T-cell therapy sequencing, and response-adapted treatment strategies for both Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphomas.
