Flavia Brizio-Skov is a Professor of Comparative Literature and Italian Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she has served since 1988. She holds a B.A. from the University of Genoa, Italy, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Washington, Seattle. Her academic roles include Campus Director for the UT-University of Genoa Cooperative Exchange Program since 1995 and Director of the UT Semester in Wales (2004). She has held editorial roles for Studies in European Cinema and Journal of Italian Cinema and Media Studies.
Her research focuses on Italian cinema post-World War II, postmodern literature, metafiction, cultural studies, and transnational film dynamics. She teaches courses on 20th-century Italian culture, cinema studies, and special topics in Italian film.
Her recent publications analyze Spaghetti Westerns, Antonio Tabucchi’s literary time constructs, and transnational cinema dynamics. Her work bridges historical memory, cultural politics, and narrative innovation across literary and cinematic mediums.
Her contributions include organizing academic exchanges, directing international programs, and reviewing for major publishers like University of Toronto Press and Forum Italicum. She has been a frequent invited speaker at institutions such as Bryn Mawr College and the Catholic University of America.
