Giuliana Perco serves as a Continuing Lecturer at the University of California, Berkeley, coordinating the department's language placement exams, the annual Gerald and Beverly Bocciardi Undergraduate Conference, and the peer tutoring program. Previously, she taught Italian language, literature, and culture at Duke University, the College of William and Mary, Pennsylvania State University, and Bryn Mawr College.
She earned her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Pennsylvania State University, establishing her foundation in cross-cultural literary analysis.
Her research centers on 20th- and 21st-century narrative from a comparative perspective, with deep engagement in metafiction, parody, intertextuality, and reader-response theory. She actively explores intersections with ecocriticism and animal studies, while her teaching spans Italian language instruction and specialized courses on detective fiction, women's writing, Italian cinema history, immigration studies, and cultural phenomena including food, fashion, music, and pop culture. This holistic approach connects literary analysis with contemporary social contexts.
Dr. Perco demonstrates significant academic leadership through her coordination of the peer tutoring program and undergraduate conference, fostering student development and scholarly exchange within the department.
