Giuliana Pieri is a Professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, serving as Head of the School of Modern Languages, Literature and Culture and Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Intl). Her research focuses on comparative studies of visual and verbal cultures, particularly Italian identity construction through art, design, and literature. She co-curated the exhibition Against Mussolini (2010) and leads the AHRC-funded Interdisciplinary Italy 1900-2020 project. Her teaching includes courses on Italian Fascism, crime fiction, Renaissance art, and postwar design.
She directs Royal Holloway's Languages for All program, offering courses in French, German, Italian, Mandarin, and Spanish. Her work aligns with UN SDG 4 (Quality Education) through her pedagogical innovations and cultural outreach. Pieri has organized public workshops at Tate Modern on avant-garde activism and led research projects on topics like Mussolini's cult and Victorian Anglo-Italian artistic relations.
Her awards include the College Teaching Excellence Prize (2018). She has published widely in art history, literature, and interdisciplinary studies, with over 50 research outputs including books, chapters, and curated exhibitions.
