Firooza Pavri is the Associate Dean of the Muskie School of Public Service and Professor of Geography at the University of Southern Maine. She holds a PhD in Geography from Ohio State University, an MA from the University of Toledo, and a BA from the University of Bombay. Her research focuses on environmental geography with specializations in society-environment interactions, natural resource conservation, sustainable development, and geospatial technologies like satellite imaging. She leads interdisciplinary projects in Iceland and Greenland, analyzing landscape changes in Arctic/sub-Arctic regions. Her work is supported by NASA and the National Science Foundation.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on remote sensing, conservation policy, and global environmental issues. She collaborates with students through NASA fellowships and internships. Pavri co-authored books on wetland environments and wind power, and her recent research explores socio-economic dimensions of sustainable energy production.
Her research in Greenland involves Kujataa UNESCO World Heritage site analysis using multi-decade satellite data to track vegetation and land cover shifts. In Iceland, she monitors Hofsjökull icecap changes since the 1990s. She advises on Maine's Presumpscot watershed and serves as guest editor for policy reviews.
