Fiona Thomson is an Honorary Professor in the School of Cancer Sciences at the University of Glasgow and serves as Director/Senior Research Fellow of the Translational Pharmacology Laboratory (TPL). Her research focuses on translating novel anti-cancer therapies into clinical practice, with an emphasis on biomarker discovery and molecular profiling to improve personalized treatments. She collaborates closely with the Glasgow Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre (ECMC) and the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre.
Her work involves biomarker development for early-phase oncology trials and optimizing pharmacodynamic assessments using tumor and blood samples. The TPL has been recognized as a CRUK Centre of Biomarker Excellence.
Key research interests include clinical trial design, precision oncology, and drug efficacy monitoring. Recent publications highlight advancements in biomarker-driven approaches, electrochemical sensing technologies for tumor mutations, and combination therapies in oncology.
Grants include support from Cancer Research UK, Chief Scientist Office, and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde for projects such as the TASTER CML trial and PARADIGM-2 glioblastoma study.
