Professor Kevin Blyth is Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Glasgow, with dual appointments at the CRUK Beatson Institute and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. He leads the Glasgow Pleural Disease Unit and founded the Macmillan Scottish Mesothelioma Network, coordinating clinical care and trials for mesothelioma patients across Scotland. As an NHS Scotland Research Senior Research Fellow, he directs a translational research program focused on pleural disease and thoracic malignancy, with particular emphasis on mesothelioma. He serves as Principal Investigator for the CRUK PREDICT-Meso International Accelerator Network.
Dr. Blyth's research interests center on mesothelioma, pleural disease, lung cancer, and thoracic malignancy. His work spans from basic science to clinical applications, with a strong focus on translational research that bridges laboratory findings to patient care. He has made significant contributions to understanding pleural mesothelioma diagnostics, staging, and therapeutic approaches, particularly through innovative applications of imaging technology and novel drug delivery systems targeting the pleural space.
His publication record demonstrates expertise across multiple domains including pleural disease diagnostics, mesothelioma therapeutics, lung cancer staging, and more recently, applications of AI in thoracic oncology. His research shows a consistent trajectory from basic pleural disease mechanisms to clinical applications, with recent work increasingly incorporating advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and sophisticated imaging techniques.
- NHS Scotland Research (NRS) Senior Research Fellow
Professor Blyth has mentored numerous researchers in the field of respiratory medicine and pleural disease. His research program is supported by multiple significant grants from Cancer Research UK, Medical Research Council, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and other funding bodies. His work on the STRATIFY study, PREDICT-Meso, and other initiatives has positioned him as a leader in mesothelioma research in the UK.
He leads the Glasgow Pleural Disease Unit and is Director of the Macmillan Scottish Mesothelioma Network, which coordinates clinical care and access to clinical trials for mesothelioma patients throughout Scotland. His translational research program bridges the CRUK Beatson Institute and clinical practice at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
