Fiona Stirling is a Lecturer in the Department of Mental Health Nursing and Counselling at Abertay University. She holds a Social Anthropology degree from the University of St. Andrews, with additional studies in Psychology, Education, and Counselling. Her research focuses on creative therapies, narrative methodologies, self-harm, and cultural resources. Driven by reflective practices like autoethnography, she explores therapeutic interventions for youth and mental health nursing practices.
Teaching responsibilities include counselling modules for the Psychology and Counselling undergraduate program and the Counselling MSc. She emphasizes boundaries in therapy, narrative approaches, and cultural considerations. Notable roles include External Examiner at the University of Aberdeen (since 2018) and membership in the BPS Children and Young People Expert Reference Group (2019–2020).
