Professor Fiona Cowdell is a leading academic in Nursing and Knowledge Mobilisation at Birmingham City University (since 2016). She holds a doctorate from Bournemouth University and has extensive experience in both clinical practice and academia, focusing on evidence-based healthcare, skin health, and older adult care. She leads the Knowledge-to-Care (K2C) Research Group, which integrates knowledge mobilisation, co-creation, and patient involvement to improve healthcare practices.
Her research interests include dermatology nursing, pressure ulcer prevention, gender inclusion in research, and optimizing eczema care through co-production. She is an Associate Editor of the British Journal of Dermatology and member of the UK Dermatology Clinical Trials Network Steering Group. Professor Cowdell also co-leads the Programme for Women Achieving Excellence in Research (PoWER) and chairs the Research Excellence Framework 2029, Unit of Assessment 3 (Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy).
Key achievements include her NIHR Knowledge Mobilisation Research Fellowship and leadership in developing interventions to support female academics. Her work emphasizes translational research, with a focus on bridging gaps between evidence, practice, and patient needs.
