Professor Carsten Flohr is a Chair in Dermatology & Population Health Sciences at King’s College London, affiliated with the St John’s Institute of Dermatology and Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. He holds concurrent roles as Honorary Consultant in Dermatology and Research & Development Lead at St John’s Institute. His research focuses on pediatric dermatology, atopic eczema epidemiology, and clinical trials, with leadership in global initiatives like the Global Atopic Dermatitis Atlas (GADA) and the TREAT clinical trial comparing eczema treatments in children. Flohr completed his medical training at the University of Oxford and advanced degrees at the University of Cambridge, University of Göttingen, and University of Nottingham.
He has received prestigious awards including the NIHR Clinician Scientist title (2009–2014) and NIHR Career Development Fellowship (2014–2020). His academic contributions span editorships in journals like the British Journal of Dermatology and F1000 Atopic Dermatitis Section. Current research emphasizes the role of skin barrier function, gut microbiome interactions, and environmental factors in allergic diseases. Notable projects include the SOFTER Trial on eczema prevention and collaborations with the National Eczema Society and LEO Foundation.
Teaching responsibilities include clinical dermatology and women & children’s health MSc programs. Flohr’s work bridges clinical practice and population health, addressing global health challenges through interdisciplinary approaches.
