Filippo Boeri is a Research Fellow at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) specializing in Economics and Geography, and currently serves as a Fellow-in-Residence at CY Advanced Studies (CY AS) invited by ESSEC Business School.
His research critically examines the intersection of globalization, economic geography, and technological change. He investigates reshoring dynamics in manufacturing, automation's impact on labor markets, and how natural disasters propagate through international ownership networks. His work analyzes how exogenous shocks trigger firm-level skill composition changes and technological upgrades within global supply chains, challenging simplistic narratives about reversing globalization.
Boeri's scholarship bridges economic theory with real-world policy implications, focusing on the stagnation of trade and foreign direct investment since the financial crisis. His research demonstrates that reshoring often substitutes foreign low-skilled jobs with domestic automation rather than creating net employment, while revealing complex network effects of idiosyncratic shocks across regional and industrial boundaries.
