Feyza Engin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomolecular Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, affiliated with the School of Medicine and Public Health. Her research focuses on endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and its role in β-cell function and type 1 diabetes pathogenesis.
Education:
- B.S. & M.S., Istanbul University, School of Pharmacy (1998–2001)
- Ph.D., Baylor College of Medicine (2007)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, Harvard University (2013)
Research Interests: The ER’s unfolded protein response (UPR) in β-cell survival during diabetes progression. Key areas include ER stress mechanisms, β-cell plasticity, and chemical interventions to mitigate diabetes. Her lab employs biochemical, genetic, and immunological tools to explore these pathways.
Awards:
- NIH K01 Award (2014)
- JDRF Career Development Award (2014)
- Shaw Scientist Award (2016)
- Vilas Associate Award (2023)
Labs/Teams: The Engin Lab investigates ER stress and β-cell dysfunction. Collaborates on diabetes heterogeneity studies and precision medicine approaches.
