Fernanda de Felice

Fernanda de Felice is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences at Queen's University, cross-appointed to Psychiatry and affiliated with the Centre for Neuroscience Studies and Translational Institute of Medicine. She holds an adjunct role at Queen's and maintains a primary appointment at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Her research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease mechanisms linked to diabetes and inflammation, particularly insulin resistance in the brain and exercise-related neuroprotection via hormones like irisin.

Education: PhD in Biological Chemistry (2002) from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, postdoctoral training at Northwestern University under Prof. William Klein. Cross appointments include Centre for Neuroscience Studies and TIME.

Research interests center on the interplay between metabolic disorders and neurodegeneration. Key contributions include identifying irisin's role in synaptic protection and developing non-human primate models of Alzheimer’s. Active in Latin American dementia initiatives through LAC-CD consortium.
