Dr. Charlie Hindmarch is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine at Queen's University, affiliated with the School of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences. He holds cross-appointments as Director of the Genomics, Transcriptomics, and Molecular Medicine laboratory at the Queen's CardioPulmonary Unit (QCPU) and Scientific Operations Director for the Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME). His research focuses on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), genomic/transcriptomic profiling, and the role of biological sex in cardiovascular diseases. He employs cutting-edge tools like next-generation sequencing and mass cytometry (CyTOF).
Dr. Hindmarch holds a PhD in Neuroscience and Endocrinology from the University of Bristol (2009), with prior postdoctoral training there and visiting professorships at the University of Malay and Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro. His work spans over 43 publications with an h-index of 17.
Research Interests: Genetics, Genomics, Molecular genetics, Analytical biochemistry, Pulmonary Hypertension, Cardiology, Translational Medicine, DNA computing, and Animal Models of Disease. His lab specializes in transcriptomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics.
Key roles include leading the TIME Institute's strategic plan and managing advanced equipment (e.g., mass cytometer) at QCPU. Current supervision includes a Master's student, Abhishek Shastry. His work integrates genomic, proteomic, and clinical data to bridge basic and translational research in cardiovascular diseases.
