Mark Ormiston

Dr. Mark Ormiston is an Assistant Professor in Queen's University's Departments of Medicine, Surgery, and Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, affiliated with the Faculty of Health Sciences. He holds the Canada Research Chair in Regenerative Cardiovascular Medicine and has cross-appointments in the Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME). His research focuses on immune-endothelial interactions in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), particularly the role of natural killer (NK) cells and BMPR-II signaling defects.

Research interests include PAH pathogenesis, immune mediators (cytokines/chemokines), immunotherapy, and vascular endothelium biology. His lab investigates how endothelial dysfunction drives PAH and how immune cells like NK cells contribute to disease progression. Key projects involve BMPR-II mutations and their impact on immune signaling, as well as developing cell-based therapies.

Teaching roles include BCHM 218: Molecular Biology, PHGY 355: Biomedical Respiratory Physiology, and TMED 800: Translational Medicine.

Scientific awards include the Canada Research Chair designation. Recent publications highlight advancements in BMPR-II-targeted therapies, NK cell dysfunction in PAH, and endothelial progenitor cell applications.

Labs/Teams: Active in Queen's Laboratory for Molecular Pathology (QLMP) collaborations and TIME initiatives. Research integrates proteomics, cell biology, and translational medicine approaches.
