Dr. Fereshte Ghahari Kermani is an Assistant Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at George Mason University. She is affiliated with the Quantum Science and Engineering Center. She holds a PhD in Physics from Columbia University (2014). Her research focuses on quantum phenomena in low-dimensional materials, combining nanofabrication, quantum transport, and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). The Ghahari Lab, an experimental condensed matter physics laboratory, investigates correlated phases and novel excitations in layered materials and heterostructures using electrical transport, thermodynamics, and scanning probe microscopy techniques.
Her notable research contributions include studies on graphene-based systems, such as quantum Hall effects, Berry phase phenomena, and thermoelectric properties. Her work bridges fundamental quantum physics with nanoscale material engineering.
Dr. Ghahari’s publications span high-impact journals like Science and Physical Review Letters, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to quantum material science.
She is based in Planetary Hall, Room 239, and leads the Ghahari Lab, fostering experimental research at the forefront of condensed matter physics.
