Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Researchمعرفی
Dr. Christian Heß is a Full Professor at the University of Wuppertal and Group Leader for Quantum Matter - Transport and Tunneling at the Institute for Solid State Research (IFW Dresden). His research spans quantum materials with focus on correlated electron systems, topological matter, and unconventional superconductors. He leads experimental investigations using scanning tunneling microscopy/spectroscopy at ultra-low temperatures and high magnetic fields.
His research interests include: low-dimensional quantum magnets, spin-heat transport phenomena, and electronic properties of quantum materials. He specializes in transport measurements under extreme conditions to probe nematic fluctuations, topological phases, and magnetic excitations. His work frequently reveals novel quantum states through thermal, thermoelectric, and spin-resolved transport signatures.
His publication trends show consistent leadership in quantum transport phenomena, particularly in iron-based superconductors, topological materials (WTe2, MnBi2Te4), and Kitaev magnets (α-RuCl3). Key themes include Berry curvature effects, spin-phonon coupling, and disorder-induced topological transitions. His group develops advanced STM techniques for spin-resolved measurements at sub-Kelvin temperatures.
Scientific Awards:
- ERC Consolidator Grant (2015): Electronic Order, Magnetism, and Unconventional Superconductivity probed in Real-Space
His group coordinates major collaborative projects including the Marie-Curie Initial Training Network LOTHERM (2009-2013) and Specific Targeted Research Project NOVMAG (2007-2010). His research bridges fundamental quantum phenomena with potential applications in spintronics and quantum computing. He maintains strong collaborations with neutron scattering facilities and synchrotron radiation centers for complementary characterization.
The IFW Dresden laboratory he leads features specialized cryogenic equipment including a sub-Kelvin STM with spin resolution, enabling unique studies of quantum magnetic excitations and topological edge states.
