Feliciano Villar is a Full Professor at the University of Barcelona's Department of Cognition, Development and Educational Psychology, where he leads the Research Group on Gerontology (GIG) and participates in the Teaching Innovation Group in Developmental Psychology. His academic work focuses on psychological aspects of aging across institutional, social, and clinical contexts.
Research Interests: Professor Villar investigates representation/perception of aging, generativity in later life, dementia care practices, civic engagement among older adults, and sexuality in long-term care settings. His research employs interdisciplinary approaches bridging developmental psychology, social policy, and clinical gerontology to address quality-of-life challenges in aging populations.
Publication Trends: Recent articles (2018-2023) demonstrate three primary research streams: 1) Dementia care interventions and staff training in institutional settings, 2) Psychosocial dimensions of active aging (including generativity, civic participation, and learning), and 3) Critical examinations of ageism and sexual expression in later life. Methodologically, his work emphasizes narrative approaches, cross-cultural comparisons, and policy analysis.
Projects & Leadership: As Principal Investigator, he has secured competitive grants including:
