معرفی
Federica BORALDI is an Associate Professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, affiliated with the Department of Life Sciences (formerly Biomedical Sciences). Her research focuses on general pathology, calcification mechanisms, neurodegenerative diseases, and proteomics. She is particularly known for her work on Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE), fibroblast biology, and neuroprotective roles of insulin-like growth factor II (IGF-II) in Parkinson's disease models.
Her office is located at Via Campi 287, Modena, in the Biological Institutes building on the 5th floor. She holds the Scientific Disciplinary Sector MEDS-02/A (General Pathology). Her lab investigates cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying ectopic calcification, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial dysfunction in genetic and acquired diseases. She has published extensively on topics such as elastin calcification, fibroblast secretome dynamics, and neuroprotective strategies.
Her research highlights interdisciplinary approaches, combining cell biology, proteomics, and translational medicine. Key themes include the interplay between inflammation and calcification in connective tissues, neurodegenerative pathways, and the development of biomaterials for biomedical applications.
Dr. BORALDI’s work also explores novel therapeutic targets for diseases like PXE and Parkinson’s, emphasizing the role of IGF-II, mitochondrial health, and antioxidant interventions. Her studies contribute to understanding disease mechanisms and potential clinical applications through preclinical models.
