Daniela Quaglino

Daniela Quaglino is a Full Professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, affiliated with the Department of Life Sciences (former Biomedical Sciences branch). Her research focuses on general pathology, fibroblast biology, extracellular matrix disorders, and ectopic calcification processes, particularly in conditions like Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE). She leads a research laboratory investigating cellular mechanisms underlying tissue calcification and regenerative medicine approaches.

Her work integrates molecular genetics, cell biology, and materials science to address diseases involving connective tissue abnormalities. Recent studies emphasize the role of fibroblasts in skin homeostasis, neutrophil dysfunction in severe infections like COVID-19, and translational models for respiratory epithelial regeneration. Quaglino’s lab also explores biomaterials for biomedical applications, such as bioactive glass modifications and porcine cell models for human disease mimicry.
