Professor Faten Ghosn is Head of the Department of Government at the University of Essex and holds an affiliated faculty position at the University of Arizona's Center for Middle Eastern Studies. She specializes in conflict resolution, refugee studies, and transitional justice. Her research explores strategic choices in conflict management, including enemy imagery impacts, forced migration policies, and ethics in fieldwork.
Qualifications include a PhD from Penn State University (2006), MA and BA from the American University of Beirut (2000, 1998). She holds dual appointments with the University of Arizona, previously serving as Distinguished University Professor (2021-2022) and Associate/Assistant Professor (2013-2022).
Her work has been supported by major grants including the Department of Defense's Minerva Initiative and U.S. Army Research Office. Awards include significant teaching recognitions at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Research emphasizes refugee relocation strategies, dehumanization effects on cooperation, and post-conflict governance challenges.
Key areas include militarized interstate disputes, ethics frameworks for vulnerable populations, and the interplay between violence and refugee decision-making. Current projects examine Lebanon's post-civil war dynamics and Syrian reconstruction challenges through lenses of justice and institutional rebuilding.
