Dr. Farida Akhtar is a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University's Department of Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics. She holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Queensland, a Master's in Financial Management from ANU, and a Bachelor's in Economics from ANU. Her research focuses on M&A, Asset Pricing, Behavioral Finance, and AI applications in finance. She has held roles at Commonwealth Treasury, Department of Defence, and private equity firms before academia.
Dr. Akhtar has led projects on corporate governance, tax frameworks, and crisis-era board diversity impacts. She has published in top journals like Journal of International Business Studies and Journal of Corporate Finance. Awards include ARC grants and teaching excellence recognitions from ANU and MQ. Current supervision includes PhD student Maryam Laeeq Ali and MRes student Nhu Tung Nguyen.
Her work has been featured in Australian Financial Review, The Conversation, and FMCG CEO Magazine. She actively reviews ARC grants and ABDC/ABS A*-ranked journals.
