Professor Faraz Mardakheh is an Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow in Biochemistry at Brasenose College, University of Oxford. He leads the Mardakheh Lab in the Department of Biochemistry, focusing on understanding how RNA binding proteins (RBPs) contribute to cancer progression through post-transcriptional regulation. His research combines proteomics, RNA-sequencing, and bioinformatics to identify dysregulated RBPs as potential therapeutic targets.
- Education: BSc (Hons) and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Birmingham.
- Positions: Former postdoc at the Institute of Cancer Research and Barts Cancer Institute; moved to Oxford in 2024.
- Research: Investigates RBP roles in cancer, including ribosome biogenesis, metastasis, and RNA localization. Key techniques include TREX (a novel RNA-protein interaction method) and quantitative proteomics.
Key Achievements: Recipient of the MRC Career Development Award (2017). Published in Nature Communications, Developmental Cell, and EMBO Journal.
Teaching: Undergraduate and graduate courses in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, and RNA Biology. Advises students including PhD candidates Emilie Alard, Zaynah Patel, and Maia Cooper.
