Konstantin Panov is a Senior Lecturer at Queen's University Belfast's School of Biological Sciences. His research focuses on fundamental mechanisms of ribosomal RNA synthesis by RNA polymerase-I (Pol-I) and its critical role in ribosome biogenesis, cell proliferation, and disease pathways including cancer therapeutics.
Research Interests: Dr. Panov investigates the biochemistry of Pol-I transcription, regulation of rRNA synthesis through signaling pathways and epigenetic mechanisms, and the discovery of novel drug targets related to ribosome biogenesis. His work connects fundamental cellular processes to therapeutic strategies for hyperproliferative diseases.
Research Trends: Recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate consistent focus on RNA polymerase mechanisms, ribosomal DNA transcription regulation, and molecular interventions in cancer and degenerative diseases. Studies frequently involve structural biology approaches and translational applications.
Projects & Affiliations:
- Principal Investigator: 'The role of Topoisomerase II-alpha in regulated transcription of human ribosomal RNA genes' (2008-present)
- Co-Investigator: 'Establishment of mass spectrometry proteomics capabilities' (2023-present)
- Member: Biochemical Society, National Science Foundation (2009-2013)
Accepts self-funded PhD students for projects related to transcription biochemistry and ribosome biogenesis.
