Farai Jena is a Professor of Economics at the University of Sussex Business School and currently serves as Associate Dean (Education & Students). She holds a PhD and MSc in Economics from the University of Sussex (2009–2015) and a BA in Economics and Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College (2002–2006). Her research focuses on applied microeconomics, including migration economics, remittance behavior, food security, and development policy. She has extensive industry experience with organizations like the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and Kimetrica.
Dr. Jena is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a Certified Management and Business Educator. She has received a University of Sussex teaching award for innovative pedagogy. Her recent work includes studies on racial disparities in sports economics and student-led educational tools for responsible management. She has led projects on remittance impacts in Africa and advised governments on agricultural policy. She actively participates in academic committees, including leadership roles in teaching and learning initiatives at the Business School.
