Catia Batista

Cátia Batista is a Full Professor at the Nova School of Business and Economics and Scientific Director of the NOVAFRICA research center. She previously taught at the University of Chicago, University of Oxford, Trinity College Dublin, and University of Notre Dame, and has consulted for the World Bank and International Growth Center.

Research Interests focus on international migration, remittance flows, financial inclusion, and technology adoption in developing contexts. Her experimental work in Cape Verde, Gambia, Mozambique, and Kenya examines how migration impacts governance, entrepreneurship, and poverty reduction.

Article Trends show a concentration on mobile money (6), migrant integration (4), and policy evaluation (7), with field experiments in West and East Africa. Recent work explores non-cognitive traits and high-skilled emigration effects on origin countries.
