Fan Wang

Fan Wang is an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University's School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society, and a member of the Institute for Sustainable Building Design. He holds a dual background in Physics and Architectural Technology from Zhejiang University, followed by research at the University of Sheffield and professional experience at Battle McCarthy, a leading environmental design consultancy. His work spans sustainable building design, energy management in historical structures, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling.

Research Interests: Fan specializes in thermal and airflow modeling, sustainable urban development, and low-energy building systems. His projects include optimizing atrium design for hot climates, solar-wall heating systems, and preventive conservation through hygrothermal control. He has contributed to high-profile projects like the Amsterdam World Trade Centre and Nairobi's Millennium Tower.

Key Achievements: Recipient of research awards from EPSRC, Royal Academy of Engineering, and Scottish Government-funded initiatives. He advises Shanghai's Building Sciences Institute and served on the UK EPSRC Peer Review College (2000–2003). His recent work focuses on embodied carbon reduction in heritage buildings and climate-responsive building systems.
