Dr. Jun Han is an Assistant Professor at Heriot-Watt University's School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society. Previously, he worked at CSIRO in Australia on building energy modeling and software development. He holds a Ph.D. from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and master's/bachelor's degrees from USTC and SUST. His research focuses on renewable energy technologies (photovoltaics, phase change materials) and CFD urban modeling.
Education:
- Ph.D., Building Services Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
- M.Sc., Thermal Science & Energy Engineering, University of Science and Technology of China
- B.Eng., Architectural Engineering, Southwest University of Science and Technology
Research interests include solar architecture design, building performance simulation, and energy-efficient technologies. His work contributes to UN SDGs related to affordable clean energy and sustainable cities. He has secured grants totaling over £30,000 from Scottish Funding Council, National Natural Science Foundation of China, and others.
Key contributions include developing thermal energy storage using PCMs, analyzing double-skin photovoltaic windows, and evaluating heatwave vulnerability in building systems. He serves as a reviewer for journals like Applied Energy and Solar Energy, and has received awards including the Light.ication Education Award (2017) and Anhui Province Science Prize (2007).
Current projects involve passive cooling strategies using PCMs and sustainable solutions for Southeast-Asian urban environments. His lab focuses on integrating renewable energy systems with building envelopes to enhance energy efficiency and thermal comfort.
