Fachrizal Afandi is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Criminal Law, Universitas Brawijaya (Indonesia), and a Guest Researcher at Leiden University's Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law, Governance, and Society. He holds a PhD from Leiden University (2021) with research focusing on public prosecutors in post-authoritarian countries, particularly Indonesia. His work bridges socio-legal studies and criminal justice reform. He serves as Executive Director of UB's Center for Criminal Justice Research (PERSADA UB) and Senior Researcher at UB's Center for Socio-Legal Research (PPSL FHUB).
Research interests include rule of law, criminal justice systems in post-authoritarian contexts, and socio-legal analysis. His recent work addresses penal code reform in Indonesia and the role of diaspora communities in fostering interfaith dialogue. He contributes to global initiatives like the Indonesian socio-legal studies association and international conferences on socio-legal research.
Publications include analyses of Indonesia's penal code deliberations and the intersection of Islam and diaspora identity. He actively engages in policy advocacy and research collaborations across institutions.
