Fabrizio Ansani is a Post-Doctoral Research Associate in History at King's College London, working with the ECOMEDS Team (2024-2027). Previously, he held a British Academy Newton International Fellowship at the University of Exeter (2023-2024) and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Storici (2018-2020). His research focuses on late medieval war economy, military commodities, and the interplay between technology, diplomacy, and state formation in Renaissance Italy.
Education: PhD in Early Modern History from the Università degli Studi di Padova (2018), with a thesis on Renaissance Florence's artillery innovations.
Research Interests: Combines economic, military, and technological history to analyze the material foundations of state-building. Specializes in saltpeter trade, warhorse procurement, artillery logistics, and early modern trade networks. His methodological approach integrates archival research with interdisciplinary perspectives from art and agricultural history.
Awards: Recipient of the British Academy Newton International Fellowship and grants from the Associazione Italiana per la Ricerca in Storia Economica.
Current Projects: Explores new primary sources on late medieval resources trade and territorialization processes as part of the ECOMEDS initiative. Investigates the diplomacy of strategic materials and their impact on early modern economies.
