Fabienne MONTMASSON-MICHEL serves as a Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Poitiers' National Higher Institute of Teaching and Education (INSPÉ), based at the Niort campus. She is affiliated with the GRESCO Laboratory and teaches across multiple tracks of the MEEF master's degree program in teacher education.
Her research centers on the sociology of education with emphasis on early childhood socialization processes. Key interests include language acquisition in nursery schools, educational inequalities linked to social class and disability, gender dynamics in early learning environments, and the professional roles of support staff like ATSEM (school aides). Her work critically examines how family backgrounds intersect with institutional practices to shape children's educational trajectories.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals consistent focus on hidden mechanisms of inequality in early education. She investigates how nursery schools function as sites of social reproduction through language practices, classroom organization, and family-school interactions. Her scholarship particularly highlights the understudied contributions of ATSEM staff and the impact of socioeconomic status on children's literacy development.
No major scientific awards are documented in available sources. However, she has secured research funding through projects including ARPEJAHM (focused on professional integration for young adults with mental disabilities) and the Power to act initiative, supported by FIRAH, AGEFIPH, FIPHFP, and university partnerships.
Dr. MONTMASSON-MICHEL actively contributes to academic communities as a board member of the GRESCO Laboratory (Research Group on Knowledge, Curriculum and Organizations) and through leadership in Research Theme 50 of the French Association of Sociology, where she serves on the extended office.
