Sébastien Goudeau serves as a University Professor and Site Manager at the Institute of Higher Teacher Training and Education (INSPE) Niort Campus, affiliated with the University of Poitiers. He is a core researcher at the Center for Research on Cognition and Learning (CeRCA/MSHS), where he leads the Social Cognition (SoCog) research team focusing on educational psychology and social inequality.
His research centers on educational inequalities and social class disparities across educational settings from kindergarten to university. Key interests include how school situations (social comparison, evaluative pressure) impact learning, the reproduction of social inequalities through educational systems, socialization effects on self-concept, and academic success determinants. His work examines both independent/interdependent self-concepts and develops school-based interventions to address equity gaps.
Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on pandemic-induced educational disruptions (digital divide, homeschooling disparities), early childhood inequality mechanisms (preschool participation gaps), and cultural mismatch theory explaining how working-class students face systemic barriers. His methodological approach combines experimental social psychology with large-scale educational interventions.
Professor Goudeau actively supervises doctoral research, including Fabian Müller's work on low-SES university success and Margaux Renoux's study of childhood cognitions in educational inequality. His funded projects demonstrate significant grant acquisition capacity, particularly through ANR and regional funding mechanisms.
His laboratory work centers on the CeRCA research unit where he directs studies examining language interactions in classrooms, digital inequality measurement, and autism inclusion. Current projects include the ANR-funded PRESCHOOL initiative evaluating teacher interventions to reduce socioeconomic disparities in early education.
