Dr. Fabian Stephany is an Assistant Professor at the Oxford Internet Institute (OII), University of Oxford, and holds senior research roles at the Institute for New Economic Thinking (Oxford Martin School) and Microsoft’s AI Economy Institute. He leads the SkillScale project, exploring AI skills’ impact on labor markets and equity. His research focuses on the future of work, internet economics, and platform economies, with publications in journals like Science Advances and collaborations with global organizations (UNDP, World Bank). He advises on AI, labor policy, and has been recognized with the 2024 University of Oxford Teaching Excellence Award. His work bridges academia and policy, addressing technological change’s societal implications.
Education: PhD and advanced degrees in economics and social statistics from Università Bocconi and the University of Cambridge. Prior roles include senior data scientist in the private sector.
Research Interests: Future of Work, AI’s role in employability, platform economies, and labor market equity. His projects include the Online Labour Observatory (with ILO) and studies on skill-based hiring trends in AI sectors. Recent work highlights AI’s wage premiums and gender gap mitigation.
