She specializes in bioethics, focusing on the ethics of emerging technologies such as reproductive biotechnologies, health communication, and space ethics. Kendal leads the Ethical, Legal and Social Implications of Emerging Technologies (ELSIET) research group, a registered unit of the International Chair of Bioethics. Her work bridges bioethics, philosophy, and science fiction, examining how speculative genres inform ethical discussions on technologies like artificial wombs and planetary defense.
Education includes a PhD in Bioethics from Monash University, alongside diverse qualifications such as a Master of Space Operations (UNSW), Master of Public Health (James Cook University), and certifications in counseling and optical dispensing. She is an Associate Editor of Monash Bioethics Review and Editor of Asian Bioethics Review.
Her research explores intersections of technology and society, including asteroid mining ethics, IVF regulatory gaps, and the societal impacts of science fiction narratives. Notable projects include organizing symposia on epigenetic justice, AI ethics, and pandemic responses. Awards include the School Teaching Excellence Award (2022) and recognition for media collaboration (2024).
Kendal advocates for global governance frameworks to address planetary defense and space resource exploitation. She critiques the IVF industry's commercialization, emphasizing patient autonomy and systemic accountability. Her upcoming book Science Fiction and the Ethics of Artificial Wombs (2026) argues for rethinking reproductive ethics through fictional futurism.
