Evelyn Ferraro is an Assistant Professor of Italian Studies at Santa Clara University’s College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Modern Languages & Literatures. She holds a Laurea in Foreign Languages from the University of Palermo, M.A.s in Translation (University of Essex) and Italian Literature (University of Pittsburgh), and a Ph.D. in Italian Studies (Brown University).
Her research focuses on transnational identities, migrations, and contested notions of Italian national belonging (Italianità). Key themes include postcolonial theory, gender studies, Sicilian cultural history, and digital humanities applications. She explores these through Italian-American narratives, cinema, and literary analysis of figures like Ebe Cagli Seidenberg and Frank Paci.
Ferraro teaches courses ranging from elementary Italian to advanced topics like immigration in cinema, ecocriticism, and the Italian-American experience. She co-edits Altreitalie, a journal on global Italian migrations, and promotes diversity in curricula.
Her awards include the 2020 Leonardo Award in the Humanities and National Italian American Foundation Fellowship. Research projects include memory studies in California’s Italian-American communities and spatial narratives in contemporary literature.
