Evan Johnson is a Professor in the Florida SouthWestern State University School of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, specializing in Communication Studies. With expertise in congressional and presidential rhetoric, his research explores stylized language, conspiracy arguments, and legislative discourse. His teaching philosophy emphasizes empathy, humor, and rigor across courses like Fundamentals of Comm Studies and Intro to Public Speaking.
- Education: PhD (2018) and MA (2013) in Communication & Rhetorical Studies from Georgia State University and Syracuse University, respectively; BA (2008) in Political Communication from University of Minnesota Duluth.
Research highlights include analyses of the filibuster’s rhetorical role in populist transcendence, Nixon’s anti-Communist conspiracy rhetoric, and Jimmy Carter’s plain style in solar energy advocacy. His publications span peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and dissertations, reflecting interdisciplinary engagement with political discourse and public address.
Evan has received multiple honors: Doctoral Honors Seminar recognition from the National Communication Association (2016), and Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Awards at Georgia State (2017) and Syracuse (2013).
