Eva-Maria Schatz

Eva-Maria Schatz is a Researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) in the Department of Environmental and Planning Law, which operates under the Environment and Society research unit. She has been employed as a Research Associate since November 2020, following a brief period as a Research Assistant from July to October 2020.

Education:

• Bachelor's degree in Law in Context at TU Dresden (2013-2017), earning a Bachelor of Law
• First State Examination in Law from the University of Leipzig (2017-2020)

Dr. Schatz specializes in environmental and planning law with particular expertise in land use regulation, protected area management within environmental impact assessment frameworks, and international/European environmental law. Her work contributes to the department's focus on legal frameworks for sustainable development and environmental protection. The department maintains strong connections with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Academy for Environmental Law and the German Nature Conservation Law Association.

Her research intersects with several major UFZ initiatives including sustainable land management, energy transition legal frameworks, and climate adaptation governance. The Department of Environmental and Planning Law actively participates in interdisciplinary projects addressing the legal dimensions of environmental challenges within Germany's Helmholtz Research Programme.
