André Wolf

André Wolf is a Researcher at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research - UFZ in Leipzig, Germany, working within the Research Unit Environment and Society and the Department of Environmental and Planning Law. His professional focus centers on the intersection of law and environmental protection, with particular expertise in environmental legal frameworks and planning regulations.

Wolf's research interests include Environmental Law, Planning Law, and Sustainable Law, with specific attention to soil protection, contaminated site remediation, and groundwater management. His interdisciplinary background combines legal expertise with geographical knowledge (B.Sc. in Geography with focus on soil science) and biological understanding, allowing him to address complex environmental challenges through legally sound solutions. His work examines how legal systems can effectively incorporate sustainability principles and develop indicators for measuring legal sustainability.

Currently, Wolf provides legal advice for the joint project BonaRes and has completed significant work on 'Law of sustainability − Sustainable Law: "Sustainable development" as a Legal Term and Indicators for a Sustainable Legal System.' His department maintains strong international connections as a member of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Academy for Environmental Law and Deutscher Naturschutzrechtstag e.V.

Wolf actively participates in the environmental law community through events such as the 4th International Online Workshop for Environmental Law PhD Students (June 16, 2025) and the 12th EELF-Conference 2025 on 'Climate adaptation and resilience: legal avenues to prepare Europe for survival in a hothouse world' (September 10-12, 2025 in Ghent, Belgium).

Beyond his professional work, Wolf maintains a personal conservation commitment through sheep breeding of two endangered species since 2016, operating as a part-time farmer since 2017.
