Eugène Morin is a Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Trent University. He holds a B.A., M.Sc. (Montréal), DEA (Paris-X Nanterre), and Ph.D. (Michigan). His research focuses on hunter-gatherer societies, Paleolithic archaeology, and faunal analysis in Europe and Northeastern North America. He leads projects investigating Neanderthal and early modern human behaviors, including demographic expansions, subsistence strategies, and dietary adaptations.
Current projects include analyzing human adaptation in Western and Eastern Europe, as well as dietary changes in prehistoric Northeastern North America. Morin is actively seeking graduate students for these projects. His work integrates multidisciplinary approaches, such as zooarchaeology and geoarchaeology, to reconstruct past human-environment interactions.
His research outputs emphasize Paleolithic subsistence strategies, bone tool use, and methodological advancements in faunal analysis. Key themes include cooperative hunting, bone grease processing, and the exploitation of small game. He has collaborated with international teams, including SSHRC-funded projects on Neanderthal disappearance and Middle to Upper Paleolithic transitions.
Morin’s contributions include pioneering studies on faunal quantification methods and subsistence practices, published in journals like Current Anthropology and Science Advances. His work bridges theoretical and empirical archaeology, offering insights into human evolution and cultural adaptation.
