Eugen Prochác

Assoc. Prof. Eugen Prochác holds a position at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU), specifically within the Faculty of Music and Dance (HTF) and the Department of String, Wind and Percussion Instruments. He has been a teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague since 1990 and previously taught at Portuguese institutions like Academia Nacional Superior de Orquestra and Escola Profissional de Paredes (1993–1997).

His education includes cello studies at the Bratislava Conservatory under J. Fazekaš and further training at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague under J. Chuchro, complemented by master classes with Daniel Šafran, Michail Chomicer, Erling Blondal Bengtsson, and Angelica May.

Prof. Prochác is a renowned performer, having toured over 40 countries across four continents. He has led master classes in Europe, Asia, and beyond, and his recordings are featured on labels like ORF, CBC Toronto, NAXOS, and others. As a performer, he has been first cellist for orchestras such as Cappella Istropolitana and Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, and collaborated in ensembles like the New Bratislava Trio and CELLOMANIA.

He founded several festivals including the Fine Music Festival in Banská Štiavnica (2000), Štiavnica Summer Courses (2006), and Fine Music Concerts (2011). His artistic leadership includes roles as dramaturg for the Music in Al Ain Festival (UAE) and the Mozart Festival in Istanbul.

Prof. Prochác’s awards include the prestigious Premio Valentina Bucchi competition win in Rome (1990) and other unspecified honors. His work spans academia, performance, and festival curation, reflecting a multifaceted career in classical music.
