Professor Etlyn Kenny is a full-time Professor in the Department of Management at the University of Birmingham’s Birmingham Business School. She is a member of the Organisations, Work and Employment Group and actively contributes to research, teaching, and PhD supervision. She teaches on the MSc Human Resource Management and Executive MBA programmes, and supervises several PhD students, both full-time and part-time.

Her research centres on employee diversity and organisational careers, with a focus on how demographic factors such as ethnicity, gender, and social class influence workplace experiences and career progression. She investigates how minority ethnic employees navigate organisational structures, the challenges women face in male-dominated fields like technology, and how social class affects access to elite careers. Her work spans sectors including the military, civil service, investment banking, media, and healthcare.
The most recent 15 publications reveal a consistent scholarly trajectory in organizational psychology, diversity, and inclusion. Her research increasingly integrates identity work, stereotype threat, and intersectionality, with methodological rigor in qualitative and theoretical frameworks. Key themes include identity salience, panethnicity, and gender dynamics in IT, published in leading journals such as Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Human Relations, and Academy of Management Learning & Education.
