Eszter Tóth is a metalsmith restorer specializing in archaeological metal artifacts at the Hungarian National Museum's National Restorer and Restorer Training Center, Department of Art Preservation and Restoration. She serves as the Acting head of the Metal-forging specialization of the MKE Applied Arts Restorer Specializations since 2019 and teaches metal fabrication techniques, metal materials science, and metal restoration theory and practice.
Her research focuses on the conservation of archaeological metal artifacts, particularly from the Avar period and Iron Age. She has extensive experience restoring significant historical objects including the Szilágysomlyó fibula pairs, Avar-era phaleras, and painted iron chests. Her work bridges practical restoration techniques with academic research on historical metalworking methods.
Dr. Tóth's publications and conference presentations reveal a consistent focus on archaeological metal conservation, with particular expertise in Avar-era artifacts, metal corrosion treatment, and traditional metalworking techniques. Her research shows progression from specific artifact restoration to broader considerations of conservation methodology and ethics.
As an educator, she supervises diploma theses and trains the next generation of art conservators in both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for metal artifact restoration.
