Heidrun Hochgesand

Heidrun Hochgesand is a Conservator at Leibniz Centre for Archaeology (LEIZA) and Lecturer at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her career spans over four decades in precious metals conservation, beginning with a goldsmith apprenticeship (1980-1984) and professional goldsmith work before specializing in archaeological conservation.

Since 2007, she has taught Precious Metal Restoration and Ancient Metalworking Techniques in JGU's dual BA program in Archaeological Restoration. Her core research areas include:

• Precious metal restoration and preservation techniques
• Electroplating applications in cultural heritage
• Analysis of ancient metalworking methodologies
• Historical trade networks for precious metals

She actively collaborates on research examining early trade structures through the lens of historical goldsmithing treatises. No publications, awards, or supervised students are documented in the available information.
