Dr. Katja Broschat is Head of the Department for Conservation/Restoration of Archaeological Glass at the Leibniz Centre for Archaeology (LEIZA) and Lecturer at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Her career began with vocational training in glass technology (1989-1992) followed by specialization in archaeological conservation. Since 1996, she has led LEIZA's archaeological glass conservation department.
Her research focuses on:
- Ancient glass manufacturing techniques and conservation
- Metallurgical analysis of Egyptian artifacts
- Technological study of Tutankhamun's burial objects
Awarded Corresponding Membership of the German Archaeological Institute (2017), she has curated exhibitions like Tutankhamun's Unseen Treasures and published extensively on archaeological conservation, including recent works on Tutankhamun's golden throne (2024) and iron artifacts (2022).
