Kathrin Gabler is a University Professor of Egyptology at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, holding this position since July 2024. Previously, she served as a Senior Research Fellow at the German Archaeological Institute in Cairo (DAI Kairo), where she managed the photo archives and acted as regional representative for Thebes/Luxor. Her research focuses on the social and economic structures of Deir el-Medina, hieratic scribal practices, and archaeological theory applied to Egyptian contexts.

- Director of the TT 217 Tomb of the Sculptor Ipuy project (2021–present)
- Co-Director of the Colossi of Memnon Conservation Project (2025–present)
Her research interests span hieratic texts, prosopography, and the interplay between material culture and administrative systems in the Ramesside Period. She has contributed significantly to understanding the smd.t n pA xr service personnel and their evolving roles over 250 years. Recent projects include Crossing Boundaries, which applies digital humanities to fragmentary papyri.
Selected scientific awards include the LMU Munich Dissertationspreis (2016), Antelope postdoc program participation (2021), and the Stiftung für Ägyptologie Anerkennungspreis (2015). She has held teaching positions at the University of Copenhagen, University of Basel, and LMU Munich.
