Estrella Torrez is an Associate Professor in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities at Michigan State University. She serves as Core Faculty and co-director of the Indigenous Youth Empowerment Program (IYEP), overseeing K-12 afterschool programming and a summer cultural camp for 65 urban Indigenous youth in Michigan.

She taught five experiential courses in Mexico and the U.S. Southwest alongside four campus collaborations with Migrant Student Services. Her public service included serving as Commissioner on the Metropolitan Detroit Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2011-2013), where she investigated structural racism across housing, education, and criminal systems.
