Barb Whitney serves as an adjunct professor at Michigan State University and Executive Director of the Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, while also holding the position of Vice-Chair for the Mayor’s Arts & Culture Commission in Lansing. Her professional focus centers on advancing arts engagement through comprehensive diversity, inclusion, and equity initiatives across institutional and community platforms.
Whitney's research and practice concentrate on arts education as a foundational discipline, museum studies methodology, and cultural management frameworks. She champions arts education as an essential human right for youth development, emphasizing systemic access and policy reform through her scholarship and administrative leadership.
Her scholarly contributions include the 2017 publication Arts Education: A Fundamental Right for Youth in the United States of America, which establishes connections between arts access, educational equity, and youth empowerment within American public policy contexts.
