Eser Selen serves as an Associate Professor at Özyeğin University's Faculty of Architecture and Design, specializing in Contemporary Art, Performance, and Communication Design Theories and Practices. Her academic foundation includes a PhD (2010) and MA (2002) in Performance Studies from New York University, and a BA (1997) in Fine Arts from Bilkent University, where she graduated as valedictorian.
Her research critically examines intersections of gender studies, feminism, contemporary art, and performance within visual culture. Notable scholarly contributions appear in Gender Place and Culture, Women & Performance: A Journal of Feminist Theory, Cultural Trends, and the International Journal of Communication. She is currently finalizing her monograph "Contesting Gender and Sexuality through Performance: Sacrifice, Modernity and Islam in Contemporary Turkey" for Edinburgh University Press (2024).
As a practicing visual artist, Selen creates performance art, installations, and video works exhibited internationally across Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and Australia. Her work bridges academic theory with artistic practice, emphasizing gender performativity and cultural critique. She actively presents research at international conferences while maintaining a dual career in scholarly and artistic production.
