Errik Hood is an Assistant Professor of Vocal Performance and Director of the Program in Vocal Performance at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, New York University. He holds a BM from Wright State University, an MM from The Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, and a DMA from The Ohio State University. His research focuses on vocal pedagogy, voice science, and early 20th-century British art songs, particularly the works of Ivor Gurney. He has presented at conferences including the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the College Music Society.
Dr. Hood's professional engagements include roles with opera companies such as Chautauqua Opera, Cincinnati Opera, and orchestras like the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra. He has performed notable works including Vaughan Williams’ Sancta Civitas and Bach’s Magnificat. Prior to NYU, he served as Voice and Opera Area Program Coordinator at Utah State University.
His research also explores functional cross-training for singers and the intersection of long-form improvisational comedy with voice pedagogy. Students under his mentorship have been accepted into prestigious graduate and young artist programs and have won competitions like the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions.
