Erin Shearer is an Associate Lecturer in History and Postdoctoral Visiting Fellow at the University of Reading. She completed her AHRC SWW-DTP funded PhD at the University of Reading in December 2023.
Her research focuses on slavery, race, and gender in the antebellum US South, with publications in the Women’s History Review and forthcoming in American Nineteenth Century History and edited collections such as Jonathan Jones and Megan Bever (eds.), The Civil War on Drugs (UGA Press). Her current book project explores enslaved women’s violent resistance, connecting resistance to broader themes of power, exploitation, and survival in antebellum slavery.
